Mogilev Oblast Police Department’s cooperation with Russian police praised

MOGILEV, 24 January (BelTA) – The Mogilev Oblast Police Department has worked out a rather effective mechanism for cooperation with Russian Federation law enforcement agencies, BelTA learned from Mogilev Oblast Police Department Chief Alexander Kovalchuk on 23 January.

According to the source, traditionally close cooperation has evolved between the Mogilev Oblast Police Department and the police departments in Russia’s Smolensk Oblast and Bryansk Oblast. Joint conferences are held as well as seminars and exercises. Information is constantly shared. “Sometimes a phone call is enough to resolve a problem. It allows promptly responding to emerging situations, including the apprehension of criminals,” noted Alexander Kovalchuk.

Thanks to shared information about people on the wanted list four criminals were apprehended in Smolensk Oblast, the whereabouts of five missing persons was ascertained. As many as 27 people, who owe money as part of civil cases, were found. Meanwhile, two criminals and ten debtors wanted by the Mogilev Oblast Police Department were found in Bryansk Oblast.

In turn, the Mogilev Oblast Police Department apprehended two criminals and found one missing person, who were wanted by the Smolensk Oblast Police Department.

Thanks to joint efforts in April 2017 five Mogilev residents were apprehended for buying cattle, beef, and horse meat in Belarus and reselling them in Bryansk Oblast. The illegal traders earned over Br1,600 by doing so. These criminals also legalized over Br360,000 by buying tangible assets. They now face illegal business operation and money laundering charges.
