Number of centenarians in Belarus at nearly 400

MINSK, 26 July (BelTA) – A total of 395 people are now over 100 years old in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Labor and Social Security Ministry.

Vitebsk Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Minsk Oblast lead in the number of centenarians in the country, with 65 people over the age of 100 living in each of the areas. Brest Oblast with 44 centenarians goes second in this gerontological rating. A total of 59 centenarians live in Gomel Oblast, 46 in Mogilev Oblast, and 51 long-livers in Minsk.

There are also nearly 10,100 veterans of the Great Patriotic War, 18,800 people who suffered from the consequences of the war, 17,400 war prisoners, 688 persons disabled from childhood because of war wounds.

Welfare assistance from the state social insurance funds to the total tune of Br2.8 million was distributed among 45,600 people. Local budgets allocated Br3.7 million to support 15,200 people.
