Over 5,800 polling stations set up for 2018 local elections in Belarus

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – A total of 5,869 polling stations have been set up for the elections to the local councils of deputies in Belarus in 2018. Such information has been posted on the website of the Belarusian Central Election Commission, BelTA has learned.

In particular, 1,022 polling stations have been set up in Gomel Oblast, 991 in Minsk Oblast, 923 in Brest Oblast, 798 in Vitebsk Oblast, 749 in Mogilev Oblast, 711 in the city of Minsk and 675 in Grodno Oblast.

A total of 250 polling stations have been established in health resorts, hospitals and other healthcare institutions that provide medical care; 17 in military units.

As it was reported, the elections to the local councils of deputies in Belarus will be held on 18 February 2018. Nomination of candidates to deputies will last till 8 January. According to the law, a candidate can be nominated by a labor collective, a political party and through the collection of signatures. A citizen has the right to get nominated in one of the constituencies to the local council of each territorial level (regional, district and rural).
