Belarus president receives Victory Day greetings from foreign leaders

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has received congratulatory messages on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War from foreign leaders and heads of international organizations, BelTA learned from the presidential press service.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was among the first to extend Victory Day greetings to the Belarusian leader. Vladimir Putin said that “by marking Victory Day, we celebrate the unrivaled heroism of our compatriots who defended the freedom of their homeland and saved the world from fascist aggression. We honor the heroes who courageously fought against the invaders on the battlefield and in their dedicated work behind the lines. It is our common duty to cherish the memory of their feats and countless sacrifices, to care for our veterans and fight against any attempts to rewrite the history of the Great Patriotic War for political goals,” Vladimir Putin said.

The Russian head of state stressed that during the difficult war years Belarusians and Russians fought shoulder to shoulder against the fascist invaders. Today the glorious traditions of brotherly friendship help develop allied relations and promote integration between the two countries.
