Belarus’ long-term sustainable development strategy in development

Economics experts and representatives of the business community contribute to the development of the draft national strategy to guide Belarus’ sustainable development till 2035, the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry told BelTA.

The fourth roundtable session on drafting the strategy took place in Minsk the other day. Representatives of the Economy Ministry, scientific and business communities, top managers of a number of companies specializing in various spheres, experts in the area of economics and strategic planning took part in the meeting. Belarusian Economy Minister Dmitry Krutoi said: “We have to work out a number of strategic documents to guide Belarus’ development in the medium term and the long term virtually at the same time. In order to produce quality documents, we’ve decided to invite a number of experts, who I hope will be able to come up with unconventional, non-trivial scenarios for Belarus’ development against the background of the rapidly transforming global economy, people who will help track and properly respond to emerging trends.”

The official noted that the practice of arranging roundtable sessions had produced certain results. “The results look sufficiently profound. The ideas we will have to ultimately run by the government will have a rather serious foundation I believe. Thoughts of each expert are very important,” he added.

First Deputy Economy Minister Aleksandr Chervyakov delivered a framework report during the meeting. The discussion was arranged using the rapid foresight method, which provides for building “a map of the future” taking into account objective developing trends, by detecting threats and opportunities for the development and formation of project initiatives. The experts determined a dozen of local and global trends that shape the conditions Belarus is going to develop in. The most topical initiatives and directions, which may provide Belarus with growth points in the specified conditions, were formulated.

The next session is expected to work out a model of growth of the national economy for the medium term and the long term taking into account the detected trends and suggested directions.
