24.12.2019

It is important to show care and kindness to all kids during the New Year holidays, Belarus’ Education Minister Igor Karpenko said as he met with students of Mogilev state vocational training school of woodworking for juvenile delinquents No.2 on 21 December, BelTA has learned.

Twelve students of the vocational training school – best students and orphans visited the All Saints Memorial Church as part of the Our Children charity campaign. They were taken on a tour around the church and met with head of the church Fyodor Povny and Education Minister Igor Karpenko.

"The guys came to Minsk to see the New Year's decorations, to visit historical and cultural sites. They visited the temple - the spiritual shrine of Minsk which made a lasting impression on them," said Igor Karpenko. “In anticipation of the New Year and Christmas, it is important not only to present a gift but also to show that you really care for these children, especially those who need it most. The problem is not that these children slipped up but that they got under bad influence. It is also our fault as we failed to take sufficient care. Of course, we are responsible for the children in difficult life situations. Our task today is to make every effort to ensure that they grow up decent people, get a profession, start families and work for Belarus,” the minister noted. He also added that there are examples when students of such schools get enrolled into teachers’ training universities choosing a career in education.

Addressing the guys, Fyodor Povny noted the importance of today's meeting. "There have been difficult periods in your life. You come from a troubled background. But such attention from the state and the education ministry is a unique opportunity to become decent people," he said.
