Lukashenko, Putin discuss program of visit to St. Petersburg

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the program of events during the upcoming visit of the Belarusian leader to St. Petersburg on 25 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“The Belarusian head of state held another telephone conversation with the Russian president. Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin discussed the program of events during the visit of the Belarusian president to St. Petersburg,” the press service said.

They discussed topical issues of cooperation between Belarus and Russia, including the defense sector and other matters.

On 25 December, Aleksandr Lukashenko also had a telephone conversation with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. The Belarusian head of state extended birthday greetings to his counterpart as Ilham Aliyev turned 60 and thanked him for support at the Eastern Partnership summit.

Ilham Aliyev informed the Belarusian leader about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the process of restoration of these lands.

The heads of state also discussed the Belarusian-Azerbaijani relations and agreed to continue the conversation at the upcoming summit in St. Petersburg.

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko is set to pay a working visit to the Russian Federation on 28-29 December.

The Belarusian president will take part in the informal meeting of the CIS heads of state in Saint Petersburg on 28 December. The CIS leaders will sum up the results of Belarus' chairmanship in the CIS in 2021, share opinions on the resolution of pending issues, discuss further measures to raise the efficiency of cooperation, social and economic development of the CIS countries. The forthcoming meeting will also mark the 30th anniversary of the CIS.

It is expected that Aleksandr Lukashenko will meet with Vladimir Putin on 29 December. The heads of state will discuss topical issues of cooperation between Belarus and Russia.
