Belarus, Russia to encourage broader use of national payment systems

Belarus and Russia will expand the mutual practice of using the national payment systems Mir and Belkart, representatives of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia told BelTA after a session of the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 9 August.

The sides approved of expanding the practice of using the Russian payment system Mir and the Belarusian payment system Belkart in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

The High-Level Group discussed a large number of matters concerning Belarusian-Russian cooperation. Those included the procedure for recognizing digital signatures in digital documents and the enforcement of digital documents in transboundary information exchange within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The sides also discussed Belarus-Russia cooperation in microelectronics and conditions for using electronic components of Belarusian make in Russia, the creation of a joint system for determining the level of localization of automobiles and special vehicles and machines of Belarusian and Russian make.

Some of the items on the agenda affected interests of a considerable number of Belarusian and Russian citizens, for instance, mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccination documents in the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation.

Considerable work had been done during bilateral consultations and as part of the efforts to resolve issues in interaction between Belarusian and Russian mobile carriers for the sake of reducing roaming rates in the territory of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Reduced rates have been in effect since November 2020 in test mode. The relevant ministries of Belarus and Russia and the mobile carriers will have to introduce permanent comfortable roaming rates soon.

The videoconference session of the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia was co-chaired by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia (who is vested with the authority of a deputy prime minister of Belarus) Vladimir Semashko and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Aleksei Overchuk. State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Yevgeny Lukyanov, heads of executive bodies of Belarus and Russia, personnel of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia also took part in the videoconference session.
