Belarusian senator: Sanctions cannot help resolve problems

Sanctions have never produced anything good to anyone and cannot help resolve problems, BelTA learned from Valery Polishchuk, a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.

The senator said: “The situation with refugees at the Belarusian-Polish border is just another tool for influencing our country. The sanctions that have been introduced do not affect politicians but common people. Sanctions have never produced anything good to anyone and cannot help resolve problems. Now The European Union threatens to introduce new packages of sanctions and build a five-meter-tall wall and contemplates fully closing the borders with Belarus.”

In his words, common people, trade industry, and small businesses will be affected by it to a greater degree. “Where is the famous European tolerance? Upon instructions of the head of state the refugees, who happened to be in Belarus' territory, are being provided with everything they need. We are doing everything to protect these people. What do they see from the side of Poland? Today the key is to protect our country and our people and prevent clashes. The Belarusian nation has not forgotten horrors of the war and this memory lives on in our children and grandchildren,” Valery Polishchuk said.
