Belarus interested in attracting tourists from India

Belarus is interested in attracting tourists from India, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Board of the Republican Union of Tourism Industry Filipp Guly.

The official said: "We've been trying to organize work with India for three years already. We've opened a representative office, published a magazine, and hosted multiple delegations. We are not getting a full-blown flow of tourists but we will in the future. We see a great untapped potential in this country."

In his opinion, Indian tourists are extremely important for Belarus. "India is home to nearly 1.5 billion people. Millions of Indians become international tourists every year. Despite the lack of a direct flight connection the country is interested in Eastern Europe," Filipp Guly explained.

The official said that at present Russia remains the most topical tourism market for Belarus, although Poland can become a worthy competitor in the future. "It is a country with almost 40 million people and the capacity of the tourism services import market of about 10 million people and the average check of €700," he said.

The expert also mentioned that Scandinavian countries, the UK, Belgium, Germany, the USA, and Canada now demonstrate a growing interest in visiting Belarus.
