Belarus starts planting corn

Belarus has begun to plant corn, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

 

As of 21 April, corn was planted on the area of 15,300 hectares, or 1.41% of the targeted area. All the regions, except Vitebsk Oblast, have launched corn planting.


 

Early spring cereals and leguminous crops (excluding corn, buckwheat and millet) were planted on the area of 501,300 hectares, 77.8% of the targeted area. Planting was done on 48.7% of the designated area in Vitebsk Oblast, 92.4% of the area in Minsk Oblast, 32.3% of the area in Mogilev Oblast. The planting in Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Gomel Oblast was completed.

 

A total of 549,400 hectares of soil (85.3% of the plan) was prepared for sowing early spring cereals and leguminous crops. This year, these crops will be planted on the area of 644,300 hectares.

 

Belarusian agricultural workers are also planting colza (7,350 hectares, or 23.2% of the plan), flax (14,800 hectares, or 29.8%), sugar beet (38,800 hectares, or 39.4%), annual grasses (64,100 hectares, or 23%), vegetables (1,170 hectares, or 18.9%).
