New Russian BTRs delivered to Belarusian army unit in Grodno

A train carrying armored fighting vehicles BTR-82A from the Russian city of Arzamas has arrived at the Grodno garrison. The new BTRs are intended for the 6th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

Commander of the Western Operational Command, Major-General Igor Demidenko said that the armored fighting vehicles will enter service in one battalion of the 6th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade. The battalion's specialists have already been trained at the 72nd guards joint educational center for training warrant officers and junior specialists and are ready to operate the new hardware.

Apart from the armored fighting vehicles BTR-82A the 6th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade will get command vehicles BTR-80K and armored medical vehicles BMM.

Guards Lieutenant-Colonel Dmitry Mitskevich, commanding officer of the battalion that will get the new hardware, said: “It is a scheduled delivery of military equipment from Russia to Belarus within the framework of the planned rearmament of the Belarusian army.”
