Lukashenko cautions against conflict that could involve entire continent

18.02.2022

We are meeting at a time of an unprecedented escalation of military-political tensions in the world, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on 18 February, BelTA has learned.

"Given the urgency of the situation, the President and I paid much attention to this particular problem and discussed our possible joint actions as a response to the aggressive behavior of Western partners," the Belarusian leader said. “I want to emphasize again: no one wants even an escalation of the situation, or conflicts whatever. Neither Russians nor Belarusians need it."

The president noted that people who have been following the situation understand that the escalation does not depend on Ukraine now. This is obvious to everyone.

“For the first time in decades, we are on the verge of a conflict that can involve the entire continent,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Today we see, in all its glory, the irresponsibility and, pardon my directness, lunacy of a number of Western politicians, the actions of the neighboring countries that defy logic and reasonable explanation, and their morbid desire to walk a tightrope." In particular, a mention was made of a significant aggravation of the situation in the Donbass where people are getting ready for evacuation.

"I have the impression that some politicians in high and responsible positions in the so-called free world are pathologically dangerous both for others and most importantly for their own peoples," the president said.
